Four years ago, Paulo moved from Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, to London. When he first arrived, Paulo got involved with a social movement called Migrantes Unidos – a group fighting for the rights of Portuguese immigrants living in London.
Last year, Paulo and other members of the Portuguese community started a petition urging Portugal’s government to make it simpler for people living abroad to vote. Among other demands, the petition wants the government to introduce online voting.
So far they have gathered over 4,000 signatures from Portuguese people living in the UK, Brazil, United States, Germany, Switzerland and even Vietnam.
