Before retiring, Michael Towsey used to work at various libraries across the borough of Lambeth, including the Tate South Lambeth Library – where he now helps Portuguese-speakers learn English.
Most of Michael’s students – who come from Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique – are beginners who want to learn the language to get back into the job market or, merely, to live a better life in the UK.
The Little Portugal team visited the Tate South Lambeth Library and spoke to Michael about what motivated him to teach English in the Portuguese-speaking community.
